Vietnam lesson for Iraq

Dominoes aren't just for fun anymore

by Harrold "Haole" A`hole

In Vietnam, the U.S. used fear to drum up a war against people who never attacked us. The domino theory of the day said that if Vietnam fell to communism, the rest of the region would, too. The domino theory fell flat. After massive bombing and leaving the war torn region, the U.S. now supports Vietnam joining the WTO, buying Boeing jets and even military weapons systems. This was a war Bush successfully avoided.

In Iraq, the U.S. used fear to drum up a war against people who never attacked us. Today's domino theory is that if Iraq goes democratic, the rest of the region will, too. Will this domino theory be equally discredited? This is a war Bush shamelessly didn't avoid.
